6 Months

Hunter had his 6 month check up this week. He is a growing boy, that is for sure. Here are the stats:

Height 26.75 inches (60%)
Weight 18 lbs 5 oz (55%)

Hunter can sit up by himself for short periods of time. He has rolled over from his back to his stomach once, but he really does not seem interested in rolling over. His favorite activity (besides eating) is watching Addison. He is eating baby food now and seems to like it okay.

He is a very happy baby!

Today I . . . Aug. 19th, 2009

After a busy morning of running errands with mommy and Addison, we all had a great lunch with the Russes. We celebrated Addison's birthday and she got to open a few presents from the Russes.
Then we came home and Addison went down for a nap and I got some tummy time.

So far it has been an excellent day!

4 Months

Hunter is now 4 months old. Hunter had his 4 month birthday on August 9th. Here are the stats:

  • Height - 24.5 inches (25%)
  • Weight - 14 lbs 14.5 oz (50%)
  • Sleeping pattern - He sleeps about 9 hours a night. Usually from 10:00pm until sometime between 6:00am and 7:00am.
  • Eating habits - still breastfeeding
  • New discoveries - he has discovered he can put his hands in his mouth, loves to watch Addison.
  • New accomplishments - has gained full control of neck and head movement, can roll onto his side, can push his head and chest up during tummy time, can play in the exersaucer and can turn himself around in the exersaucer, can grab his toys and hold them while on his play mat.
  • New sounds - makes a few noises and seems to be trying to laugh.

At Hunter's 4 month check up Dr. Willey said that he is developing well and looks very healthy. She said he may do things a month behind other children his age because he was born a month early, but she said it was nothing to worry about.

His skull is still a little mis-shaped, but again the doctor didn't think it was anything to worry about right now. The doctor said that as he learns to sit up more and does more activities that do not have him laying on the back of his head his skull should start to even out in shape.

We have just started putting Hunter in the exersaucer and it is one of his favorite things. He also enjoys laying on his play mat. He does not enjoy laying on his stomach, but he is getting more used to it.

Hunter loves playing "motorcycle" with his Uncle Three. Three holds Hunter in his lap facing out (away from Three) while Hunter holds onto Three's hands, Three makes motorcycle sounds and moves Hunter around like he is riding a motorcycle. Hunter smiles the whole time.

Our little boy is growing well!

He's Here

Hunter Immanuel made his appearance on April 9, 2009 at 1:42 am. He arrived three weeks early, which was actually a blessing, because at three weeks early he weighed 7 lbs 5 oz. I can't image how much he would have weighed if he had gone three more weeks.

We went to the hospital at 2:00 am Wednesday morning, April 8, not expecting that we were going to leave a few days later with a baby. Tuesday I woke up feeling fine, but as the day progressed I started having pain in my inner and outer thighs, in my lower stomach and in my right side. I assumed this was pain from walking around the Zoo all day on Saturday. As the day progressed the pain got to the point I had to ask Daniel to come home. That night I had a fever and was throwing up and my side was hurting a lot. We called the doctor and he said he would meet us at the hospital.

The doctor suspected I had kidney stones. As they were trying to figure out what was causing my pain, they put a monitor on me that showed I was having contractions. After a few hours, they decided the contractions I was having were strong enough to go ahead and progress with labor.

The contractions were not particularly painful, but the pain in my side was getting worse. To help with the pain in my side they gave me an epidural. After that, life was GOOD.

After a few hours the doctor decided that I was not progressing like I should, so they gave me meds to make my contractions get stronger. Unfortunately at they increased the meds to strengthen my contractions Hunter's heart rate would go down. So they would stop the meds until his heart rate became normal again. This is why my labor lasted so long. About every 30 minutes we would have to stop the meds to get Hunter's heart rate normal again. Finally I was dilated enough to start pushing. This is where things got hard. I pushed for 2 hours and 40 minutes. After 2 hours I was so tired and I just wanted to be done. I really did not think I was going to be able to push him out. My contracts were no longer getting strong enough to be any help while I pushed. Finally he came out.

At first the doctor was going to hand Hunter right to me. He even gave me a blanket to wrap the baby in, but then instead of giving him to me, the doctor handed Hunter to the nurses who rushed him over to the new born station and started working on him. The umbilical cord had been wrapped around his neck and apparently they had to resuscitate him and he had some breathing problems. I was able to see him for a few seconds before they had to take him to the nursery to monitor his breathing.

At this point it was early Thursday morning. We were able to go to the nursery to hold Hunter for a little while, but they wanted to keep him there a little longer to watch him. Later Thursday morning they brought him to our room and from that point on we were able to keep him with us.

Hunter had a few problems with jaundice and his first week he continued to lose weight. But now we are into his third week and his jaundice is completely gone and he is gaining weight. He is doing really well and is such a blessing.
